VUT’s Faculty of Applied and Computer Sciences Shines at Chandigarh University’s 8th Interfaculty Development Program

A delegation from the Faculty of Applied and Computer Sciences (FACS) of the Vaal University of Technology (VUT) recently had the distinguished honour of presenting at the 8th edition of the Interfaculty Development Program (IFDP) held at Chandigarh University in Punjab, India.
This prestigious event brought together more than 110 academic leaders and researchers representing 87 universities from 32 countries to share insights and foster collaborations across various disciplines.
The VUT delegation led by Professor Christa Grobler, the Executive Dean, Faculty of Applied and Computer Sciences presented on a range of cutting-edge topics during specialist sessions. Their contributions highlighted the innovative research and expertise housed within VUT.

Environmental Remediation.”
– Prof. T. Xaba: “Thin Film Materials for Solar Cells: Addressing Global Energy Demands through Sustainable Technology” and “Synthesizing Biodegradable Polymer Nanocomposites for
Water Treatment Application.”
– Prof. J. Modise: “Photocatalytic Degradation of Pharmaceuticals and Organic Pollutants Using Advanced Nanocomposites” and “Sustainable Water Treatment: Adsorption Techniques of
Dye and Heavy Metal Removal.”
– Prof. F. Mthunzi: “Harnessing Nanotechnology for Sustainable Wastewater Remediation: Emerging Trends and Materials” and “Exploring the Efficacy of Biomass in Toxic Metal
Remediation Efforts.”
– Dr. N. Mkhumbeni: “Advanced Technologies in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Haematology, and Histopathology.”
– Dr. K. Mtshatsheni: “Chief Counseling Elements of Effective Practices of Mentoring: In Formal and Informal Contexts.”
– Dr. Takaidza: “Bioactive Compounds: Challenges and Future Scope.”
– Prof. Grobler: “Use of AI in Medical Laboratory Science.”
According to Professor Grobler this visit not only enhanced the international footprint of VUT but also facilitated the sharing of expertise and the establishment of valuable research collaborations. “The delegation engaged in effective benchmarking and productive discussions on curricula and the latest developments within their specific disciplines,” she shared. She also added that the gathering provided the VUT team with a significant opportunity for engagement and collaboration on a global scale.
The FACS team was also joined by the Executive Dean (acting) of the Faculty of Human Sciences, Prof. Lazarus Maleho, further emphasizing the interdisciplinary approach and collaborative spirit of VUT’s participation.
