Cum Laude recipients: Vincent Tlowana and Pheledi Makhafola

Determination and preparation are the essentials of success. The university recorded two Baccalaureus Technologiae Cum Laude’s from the Faculty of Applied and Computer Science in Information Technology. The two Cum Laude’s were awarded to Pheledi Makhafola and Vincent Tlowana in during 2018 Spring graduation ceremony.
Cathrine (28) from family of four siblings and has graduated for her National Diploma in 2014. She took gap years before she registered for her B-Tech in 2017. She said that the break was difficult as she had to look for employment. Eventually she got employed and told herself that her aim is to get a Cum Laude as she didn’t get it from her diploma. “I paid for my studies this time around, as I am employed” she said with a smile.
While Vincent (25) started his varsity career in 2012. He got his Diploma in 2015 and registered for his B-Tech two years later (2017). He said that his B-Tech was funded by a bursary called Liquid Telkom. Vincent said that he had a good experience from the lecturers at VUT. He also said that he made sure that he prepared in time and used previous question papers to study. The challenges that he was facing during B-Tech was when he had a group work, he said that he had to compromise to make it work in his favour.
