All preparations in place for French day 2018 at Vaal University of Technology
The Vaal University of Technology (VUT) in partnership with Alliance Française (AF), French South African Schneider Electric Education Centre (FSASEC) and the French Embassy are proud to announce the hosting of French Day 2018, aptly themed, “Convergence of the French and South African Cultures.” The event which aims to bring together the French and South African communities will take place on Wednesday, 16 May 2018.
French Day brings a full day of interactive activities aimed at highlighting the Franco-South African collaboration ranging from science and technology and hospitality to arts and culture, thus promoting positive and sustainable relations between the two countries.
This will be the third French Day taking place at VUT with an exciting programme lined up for staff, students and the community at large. This year’s main focus is on arts and culture, showcasing the diversity of South Africa and French citizens. Students will be treated to a presentation on the various opportunities available for them to study in France, they’ll also get a basic crash course on the French language – which is expected to be the biggest French class to ever take place at VUT. This massive French class “for lovers” with 300 students expected is sponsored by French TV Channel TV5 Monde will provide tips and key sentences in French to chat up boys and girls.
The highlights for the day include a fashion show, an art exhibition, music competition as well as a cooking competition hosted by the VUT hospitality department. Performances by traditional Zulu dance group, Ubuhle Buka Zulu and the VUT Choir will keep all guests entertained as the festivities continue throughout the day.
The public is invited to take part in the festivities which will start from 9:00am until 16:30pm at various venues on campus.
