The Vaal University of Technology (VUT)’s Fine Art section in the Visual Arts and Design Department (VAD), recently hosted an annual captivating Art Exhibition at the Bodutu Gallery to showcase the diverse talent of their students.
The event, held under the theme “Art For What It Is,” aimed to provide a platform for artists to engage with viewers through various mediums, encouraging multiple interpretations and meaningful interactions.
The Exhibition encouraged artists to communicate their ideas and emotions through diverse artistic expressions. By focusing on sensory experiences, emotional connections, and creating a safe space for viewers to engage with the artwork, the exhibition sought to facilitate a deeper understanding and resonance with the messages conveyed through the art pieces.
The exhibition drew a diverse audience, including notable figures both internally and externally, including Prof Lazarus Maleho, the acting Executing Dean for the Faculty of Human Sciences; Prof Hanlie van Staden, the Head of Department (VAD), Ms. Lebogang Monakedi, a well-known Film and TV producer; as well as students and parents.
A highlight of the exhibition was the recognition of student achievements, with certificates awarded to those excelling in various categories such as Art Theory, Drawing, 2-Dimensional Studies, 3-Dimensional Studies, Painting, and Digital Art.
Best overall student and most improved student certificates were scooped by Liyema Viti (1st year), Thendo Liphanzdi (2nd Year) and Dimpho Lehoko (3rd year).
“Receiving these prestigious awards as a self-taught artist is a deeply meaningful validation of my dedication and hard work. Each award symbolizes the countless hours of commitment and determination I have invested in enhancing my skills. This recognition not only fills me with pride and encouragement but also reinforces my faith in my artistic vision, inspiring me to persevere and continue pushing the boundaries of my creativity,” said Liyema Viti, who obtained eight (8) certificates.
The event proved to be a sensational and inspiring moment, with attendees appreciating the creativity and talent showcased by the students. We encourage them to keep pushing the boundaries of creativity and continue to share unique perspective with the world.
