Best researchers honoured in the Faculty of Applied and Computer Sciences

On Thursday,11 April 2019, the Faculty of Applied and Computer Sciences celebrated their Annual Research Awards at the Sisonke Student Training Restaurant. The faculty was celebrating Research Excellence & Achievement and acknowledging the good work done by the researchers.
The Executive Dean of the faculty, Professor Raymond Mabuza, gave a welcoming address and encouraged researchers to believe in themselves. He advised the staff to employ both skills for research and teaching. He emphasised that staff should have a positive attitude towards research, be creative, innovative and work systematically in order to succeed in this area.
Professor Bobby Naidoo, the HoD of Chemistry gave a brief background of the top researchers nominated to receive awards.
The research achievement award was presented to:
Dr Thokozani Xaba – First Place and,
Professor Vusumuzi Pakade – Second place.
The research excellence award was presented to:
Professor Makwena Moloto – First Place and,
Professor Kazeem Okosun – Second place.
In his congratulatory speech, the Research Director, Dr Simphiwe Nelana encouraged staff members to participate in research, to find a balance between research and teaching. He said Researchers need to be enthusiastic and determined, albeit the challenges they face.
“These are fruits of our labour and you have made the faculty proud… if you want to do it, do it now and with all your power,” said Prof Mabuza.
Professor Naidoo acknowledged the presence of all guests and staff members. He congratulated the staff members who obtained their doctoral qualifications at the Autumn VUT graduation on Monday, 8 April 2019.
