Thusong Project, a business unit within the Vesco group of companies, hosted a one-day Youth Empowerment Workshop for unemployed matriculants on 20 June 2018, in commemoration of Youth Month. Participants received guidance and tips on how to write a professional CV and how to conduct yourself during an interview. Ms Mercia Makgati from Amatile Lifestyle, a coaching company based in Pretoria, was the one conducting this session on CV writing & interview preparation. She also mentioned the importance of updating a CV constantly and further advised that “candidates must make sure that their CVs speaks to the recruiter and stands out from other CV but most importantly that it projects the best skills that you have as a job applicant”.
The Gauteng Enterprise Propeller (GEP), a government agency that promotes entrepreneurship and offers both financial and other support to new businesses, was also represented by Ms Rebecca Gladile who summarized how the participants can benefit from the services of GEP.
The Sedibeng TVET College was also part of the programme and were represented by Mr Funamna Mankayi who addressed participants on the different skills programmes offered by the college; learnership opportunities offered by SETAs as well as the difference between a Learnership and a Skills Programme.
The Vaal University of Technology (VUT) participated by showcasing programmes that are available for the empowerment of our communities through VUT Southern Gauteng Science and Technology Park, Sebokeng. They shared information on bursaries available for various courses and showcased their 3D innovations.
The Chamza choral singers, a choir made up of boys from the age of four, provided the entertainment.
