The Vaal University of Technology (VUT) hosted its VUT 60 Year Legacy Golf Day on 20 March 2026, bringing together industry partners, stakeholders, alumni, and staff for a day that blended purpose with participation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Held at Emfuleni Golf Estate, the event was anchored in a clear and meaningful objective: to raise funds for the VUT Bursary Fund, which supports underprivileged students in accessing higher education. While the day offered opportunities for networking and engagement, its core purpose remained firmly rooted in making education more accessible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Building on the success of previous editions, the golf day continues to grow as a platform for impact. Last year\u2019s event raised close to R500 000 towards student support, and the University has set its sights on surpassing that milestone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

VUT Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Prof Khehla Ndlovu, reflected on both the progress made and the responsibility that lies ahead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhile we take pride in what has been achieved, our work is far from complete. The need is great, and we are hopeful that this initiative will continue to grow from strength to strength, allowing us to support even more students who would otherwise be excluded from higher education due to financial constraints,\u201d said Prof Ndlovu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He emphasised that initiatives such as the VUT 60 Year Legacy Golf Day represent more than institutional events, but are deliberate interventions aimed at expanding opportunity and restoring dignity through education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEvents such as this are not only about engagement, but about impact. Through the support of our partners and stakeholders, we are able to open doors for students and invest in the future of our country,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participants and sponsors echoed this sentiment, describing the event as both meaningful and memorable. Mr Norman Malao of Brits in Rustenburg commended the<\/p>\n\n\n\n

initiative, saying, \u201cI would like to congratulate the Vice-Chancellor and Principal for a job well done in creating such spaces for networking, connecting and collaboration. The energy on the course has been fantastic.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beyond the fairways, the atmosphere reflected a shared commitment to a common cause. Teams competed with enthusiasm, while conversations off the course centred on partnership, purpose, and the role each stakeholder can play in shaping a more inclusive future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The VUT 60 Year Legacy Golf Day also formed part of the University\u2019s broader journey towards its 60th anniversary, reflecting a legacy not only of academic excellence, but of social responsibility and community impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the day drew to a close, participants left with more than prizes and memories. They departed with a renewed sense of purpose, having contributed to an initiative that seeks to change lives through education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

VUT extended its sincere appreciation to all sponsors and participants whose continued support makes this initiative possible. Their contribution is not only an investment in the institution, but in the potential of every student whose path may be transformed through access to education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
