The Vaal University of Technology (VUT) continues to cement its position as a hub of academic excellence and innovation with the recent achievement of one of its own. Newly conferred PhD graduate, Dr Elias Mbongeni Sibanda, has reached a significant milestone in his academic and professional journey, earning a Doctor of Philosophy in Information Technology with a groundbreaking thesis titled Adaptive Social Media Recommender Systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His achievement comes at a defining moment for the University, as VUT marks its Autumn Graduation ceremonies from 13 to 24 April 2026, celebrating the 60th generation of graduates. During this period, a total of 12 doctoral degrees will be conferred, each representing years of intellectual labour, personal sacrifice, and an unwavering pursuit of knowledge. Within this collective milestone, Dr Sibanda\u2019s journey stands as both deeply personal and emblematic of a generation shaping the future through research, innovation, and purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Dr Sibanda, this accomplishment represents far more than an academic credential.
