For Mr Carcidio Khoza, that moment carried a deeper weight. It was not only the culmination of academic work, but the reflection of a journey shaped by leadership, pressure, and an unwavering commitment to others.

As he walked across the stage at the Vaal University of Technology (VUT), graduating with an Advanced Diploma in Graphic Design during the University’s 60th graduation season, he did so not just as a student, but as a leader who had spent years standing in the centre of student life.

Known across campus as the former and current interim Student Representative Council (SRC) Academic Officer, and as a council member, Mr Khoza has long been a voice in rooms where decisions are made. Yet behind the titles lies a quieter story, one of late nights, competing demands, and the discipline required to remain grounded in his studies while carrying the expectations of others.

His journey into leadership was not driven by ambition for recognition, but by conviction.

“Joining the SRC was never about a position. It was about answering a call to serve and to challenge systems that do not work for students,” he reflected.

Those who have worked alongside him know the weight that comes with such responsibility. Long hours, difficult conversations, and moments where decisions carry real consequences for thousands of students. Through it all, he learned to stand firm.

“Leadership is not about titles. It is about accountability and consistency,” he said.

Among the moments that define his leadership, one stands out. Being part of a team that registered more than 4,000 students in a single day, and helping ensure that institutional quotas were met twice in succession. For him, these were not statistics, but lives redirected, opportunities secured, and futures reopened.

Yet even in the midst of this responsibility, he never lost sight of his own academic path. There were days when leadership demanded everything, but he chose to persist, to return to his books, to continue building towards a qualification that now stands as proof of that resilience.

Graduation, for Mr Khoza, is not an ending. It is a continuation. He is already pursuing an Advanced Diploma in Management, expanding his knowledge and sharpening the tools that have defined his journey so far.

His message to fellow students carries the weight of lived experience.

“You are more powerful than your circumstances. Doubt should never define you. Believe in your voice, invest in your growth, and never shrink yourself to fit into spaces that were never built for your greatness.”

As VUT marks its 60th year, his story becomes part of a larger narrative, one that speaks of students who do more than pass through the institution, but shape it. In Mr Carcidio Khoza, leadership and learning do not compete. They coexist, each strengthening the other, forming a journey that continues to unfold.

“Mr Carcidio Khoza, SRC Academic Officer and council member at VUT, graduates with an Advanced Diploma in Graphic Design while […]

[47,1

post-35502","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-latest-news-vaal-university-of-technology","category-uncategorized
["GET
