On Friday, 24 April 2026, Ms Lydia Maleshoane Mosese stepped onto the graduation stage to receive her master’s degree, carrying with her a journey shaped not by ease, but by endurance.

Originally from Lesotho and now based in Soweto, Ms Mosese’s life has been defined by movement, adaptation, and an unwavering commitment to growth. Her academic path was never linear. It demanded patience, sacrifice, and the courage to begin again when circumstances forced a pause.

Her research, titled “Supply Chain Drivers and Medium Scale Enterprise Performance in Gauteng Province,” reflects both academic depth and practical relevance. At its core, the study explores how the often-unseen mechanisms of supply chains shape the success and sustainability of medium scale enterprises. In an economy where businesses must constantly navigate uncertainty, her work offers grounded insights into how efficiency, coordination, and strategic decision making can strengthen performance and ensure long term viability.

For Ms Mosese, the research was more than an academic requirement. It was a contribution to a broader conversation about economic resilience. It speaks to the role that thoughtful, evidence-based supply chain practices can play in supporting enterprise growth, particularly within Gauteng’s dynamic business landscape. In this, her work aligns with the University’s commitment to research that does not remain theoretical but finds relevance in the realities of industry.

Balancing her role within the Department of Internationalisation at VUT with the demands of postgraduate study required careful discipline. Her journey, which began in 2018, was disrupted by the global uncertainty of the COVID 19 pandemic. Like many, she was forced to step back in 2021, a moment that could easily have marked the end of her academic ambitions. Instead, it became a point of reflection. She returned with renewed focus, completing a Postgraduate Diploma before progressing to her master’s degree.

She describes the journey in simple but powerful terms. “I am very happy,” she said, a quiet acknowledgement of years of effort. Behind those words lies a deeper story of faith, persistence, and the strength to seek support when it was needed most. “Being a believer in God helped me a lot. I stayed consistent and allowed myself to ask for help from people I trusted, and they supported me.”

Her path was not without personal trials. Balancing motherhood, professional responsibilities, and academic commitments demanded resilience at every stage. During a critical phase of her studies, she experienced personal loss, a moment that tested both her resolve and her emotional strength. Yet, even in grief, she remained committed to completing what she had started. It is this quiet determination that defines her story.

Looking ahead, Ms Mosese is not standing still. Her focus has already shifted to the next horizon. She intends to pursue a doctoral qualification, building on her research and continuing to contribute to knowledge within the field of supply chain management. It is a natural progression for someone whose journey has always been guided by purpose.

Her story is a reminder that achievement is rarely a single moment. It is a collection of decisions made in difficult times, of resilience in the face of uncertainty, and of belief when the outcome is not yet visible. As VUT reflects on 60 years of impact, graduates like Ms Mosese embody the spirit of that legacy, proof that persistence, anchored in purpose, can carry one across even the most demanding paths.

“Ms Lydia Maleshoane Mosese earns her master’s degree from the Vaal University of Technology, reflecting persistence and dedication through her […]

[47,1

post-36102","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-latest-news-vaal-university-of-technology","category-uncategorized
["GET
