The French Southern African Schneider Electric Education Centre at the Vaal University of Technology (F’SASEC-VUT) has yet again opened doors for the Department of Electrical Engineering within the Faculty of Engineering & Technology (FET).
From 30 July – 23 August 2024, the Centre will offer contact session classes to a cohort of more than sixty (60) fourth semester (S4) students. During this period these students will get training in Domestic Home Installation, Industrial Installation, Illumination and Fault Finding. This initiative marks a significant step in bolstering the faculty’s commitment to providing advanced education in the field of electrical engineering.
Mr. Mbongiseni Ntshangase, the Lab Technician, notes that there are sufficient skills for the students to learn at the F’SASEC VUT thus the workshop. “The students are currently busy with a Project that assesses graduates’ attributes for power discipline, and the equipment at F’SASEC VUT is more advanced to assist the students into acquiring more practical skills to assist them with their project,” Ntshangase explained.
Lighting Improvement through LED retrofitting for Cost Saving” is a course project from Prof Cuthbert Nyamupangedengu, Head of Department, which is intended to prepare for the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) visitation in the academic year 2025. The project consists of eleven graduates’ attributes and through the workshop, students will be competent in the attributes guided.
Ms. Nyeleti Mahwayi, a student attending the workshop, noted the unique advantages of the facilities at the Centre. “The workshop has been incredibly insightful. The equipment here is distinct from what we have in the main labs. The F’SASEC labs offer more practical applications, allowing us to start installations from scratch,” Ms. Mahwayi remarked. Her comments highlight the department’s focus on providing students with practical skills that are directly applicable to real-world engineering tasks.
F’SASEC VUT enhances students and VUT electrical engineering community’s hands-on learning with cutting-edge facilities and practical training opportunities.
