As they provide specialised expertise in different fields, the VUT Procurement Department invited suppliers to a Supplier Day on 2 August at the Desmond Tutu Great Hall.
This was a platform for VUT and its suppliers to engage and converge on the challenges that they face and to address the problems.
“This event is our public declaration that we need to stop talking past each other and about each other and start talking to each other so that we can jointly confront the challenges facing us,” said the Procurement Manager, Mr. T Lehloo. The event had approximately above two hundred local suppliers and potential suppliers that attended.
Through the engagement, the department hopes to achieve the following:
- The main purpose for the day was for the institution to give platform to the local SMME’s to share their experience in doing business with VUT and to understand internal procurement processes and policies.
- Highlight some of the challenges that are restricting maximum participation of suppliers doing business with the institution.
- To equip supplier with the requisite skills to put them in a better stead to compete for VUT business.
Presentations were made by colleagues in different sectors/divisions of the Procurement Department.
