On Friday, 3 May 2019, the Department of Marketing and Sports Management at the Vaal University of Technology’s Ekurhuleni campus held a workshop for third-year marketing students at the Afrique Boutique Hotel, OR Tambo and Conference Venue. The purpose of this workshop was to provide students with more information about the role of brands and branding in businesses.
Seven speakers were invited to share industry knowledge with students and staff on current market trends, with reference to the theory. Mr. Thebe Magapa, Marketing Lecturer at VUT, welcomed students and emphasised the purpose of the event and encouraged their participation so they would take full advantage of the knowledge-sharing platform.
Interactions with students and guest speakers became more fun when Mr. Wesley Chetty from PepsiCo turned the question and answer session into a competition, awarding awesome prizes to those who answered the questions correctly: “This is to prove if you are good listeners,” he explained.
Miss Kefiloe Mokate, a user-experience strategist at FCBAfrica encouraged students to take the initiative and put their ideas into action. She said: “The beauty of online sources is that they help establish old ideas into new ideas and grow the skills you already have.’’
The workshop was very informative and was enjoyed by students who left the venue with big smiles of satisfaction at having chosen the correct career path.
