About Mathematics

Welcome to the Mathematics section of the department of Environmental Science, Mathematics, NDT and Physics at the Vaal University of Technology. In this era of rapidly changing technology Mathematics should be appreciated more than ever before. Classical Mathematics may sometimes appear irrelevant in the computer age; however, use of computer solutions without real understanding of the underlying Mathematics involved may easily lead to serious errors.

The mathematics section of the department at VUT endeavours to provide Applied Sciences (Chemistry & Physics), ICT and Engineering students with mathematical skills and tools of high relevance and applicability to their respective fields. These tools range from Algebraic Methods, Basic Calculus, Mathematical modelling, Differential Equations to Statistical Analysis. Presently the department renders quality services to almost all other Faculties at VUT. However, the mathematics section is intending to register and conduct a program in Industrial Mathematics soon.
