National and International Collaborations

The scope of the ISL has expanded from single niche area, research of FNRC, to multiple research and sustainable projects in collaborations with both international and national institutions.

Partnerships with international institutions that exist in the ISL are as follows:-

1) University of Greenwich (UoG) in Chatham, United Kingdom (UK), specifically with Dr Paul Amuna, a medical doctor with a Masters in Public Health Nutrition and Dr Francis Zoto, a public health nutritionist. Both are engaged in education, training and research in the field of public health nutrition and developing specific novel foods that will address various forms of malnutrition, both over- and undernutrition.

2) University of Westminster (UoW) in London, UK, specifically with Dr Ihab Tewfik, a public health nutritionist and biochemist who is engaged in education, training and research in the field of public health nutrition.

3) Institute of Home Economics (IHE) at the University of Delhi in India, specifically with Dr SJ Passi. Dr Passi is a nutritionist who specialises in community nutrition and health research.

4) University of Massey, Auckland, New Zealand, specifically Dr Rozanne Krugger – a nutrition specialist in community nutrition and dietary diversity.

5) University of Benin in Nigeria, specifically with Dr Lilian Salami, a nutritionist specialising in community nutrition and health research.

6) Department of Correctional Services (DCS), especially in a pilot project in nutritional status of inmates vis-à-vis meals provided by DCS. The project is supposed to be rolled out after the final report, which is due to be submitted.

7) Sharpeville Care of the Age, especially Messrs Oberholzer, Lelimo and Rev Dinkebogile. A number of research projects are undertaken in Sharpeville and Boipatong.

8) Friends for Life in Alexandra, in collaboration with the Lombardi East Methodist Church.

9) Sethlabotja Primary School in Eatonside.
