Large numbers of students are drawn from neighbouring countries such as Botswana, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Swaziland and DRC. The application for admission of international students is administered through the Office for International Relations. With my marketing background I get to think like a Marketing Campaign Manager which allows me deliver content that will exceeds clients\u2019 expectations. I get to also suggest ideas for the campaign that will yield more return on investment for the brands that I work with because of the marketing knowledge I have gained in my years of studying and most importantly I get to exercise my work ethic that I have gained from studying within the department of Marketing at the Vaal University of Technology. The qualification is more than a paper of confirmation that I have completed a course but something that I can use for my personal and community benefit.<\/span><\/p>

\u201cNothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm\u201d.\u00a0 These are wise words I have always kept in mind when dealing with my studies.<\/span><\/p>

My name is Khanyisa Malungana and I am a proud Advanced Marketing Management student currently registered at the Vaal University of Technology (VUT) for the 2021 academic year. My experience with the department of Marketing, Retail Business & Sport Management has been life changing. Looking back from my first year to now where I am completing a postgraduate qualification, I have grown so much as an individual. The quality of education I have received empowered me to be the person that I am today. I am more than a student with a Diploma qualification but a leader in my own right. The university afforded me the opportunity to equip my leadership skills from the lecture rooms to the campus corridors and I am confident that the very same skills sharpened at the university will open doors for me in the corporate world.<\/span><\/p>

I have been exposed to so many things that keep on adding value into my education and widens my perspective on things. From the seminars and events hosted on campus and now online, I can boldly say the VUT goes above and beyond to educate its students and that the learning does not end or stop in the lecture rooms. I am now more aware of issues that impact our society from Gender based violence to rape. The university teaches us to speak more on issues that are deemed as \u2018taboo\u2019 in society which makes us advocates or activists on these issues and as a result we become the change we want to see in the world. I am learning new lessons and unlearning unsavoury prejudices.<\/span><\/p>

The department of Marketing, Retail Business & Sport Management has a complement of lecturers that really care for their students. Even with the advent of the COVID19 pandemic in early 2020 when we were thrown into a remote teaching and learning format, the lectures presented remained intimate and engaging, which allows for lecturers to spot talent and mentor us accordingly. In addition, the department applies a teaching format that instils in the students a level of confidence where they can share their opinions and take part in academic conversations in a respectful manner. I was selected as a class representative for class of 2020 and 2021 respectively because my Research lecturer saw potential in me. This role assisted me to cultivated public speaking skills and I learnt a lot about team dynamics. My dedication, passion and learning spirit keeps on igniting because the lecturers are as eager to educate.<\/span><\/p>

My highlight for this year is taking part in the research workshop where academics from the department and special guests from other institutions shared vast knowledge regarding how to identify research gaps in Marketing related research topics. I also appreciated the special guest lecturers that came through in the Digital Marketing modules who provided practical insight about other aspects such as building a personal brand on the digital platforms, as this assisted me to prepare myself for the corporate world of work. Special thanks to the esteemed Head of Department, Prof N Dlodlo for her passion and effort in ensuring that we receive the best education the university can offer and also to my lecturers right from the start in first year to now in my Advanced level for playing such a big role in my education and of course my classmates for motivating me to do better always.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Currently enrolled in a diploma program in sport management, I recently completed a D license coaching course. I began playing football for VUT Men in 2021 and most recently became an Assistant Coach on the VUT Technical team. As a coach, love and enthusiasm have elevated my love for football to a new level. Kgotso Nhlapho
My name is Kgotso Nhlapo I was born in the Free State Province, in a small town called Kroonstad. I started playing for the men\u2019s VUT first team in 2022 and I am currently the Captain of the VUT men\u2019s team. I\u2019m a third-year student doing Sports Management. The course has helped to unlock so many opportunities for me in the world of sports, including elements of Sport Administration. As I recently acquired my SAFA CAF-D licence, this has put me one foot into the technical officiating space, which is an avenue I would like to explore especially by giving back to my hometown and country at large, via coaching development clubs..<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Feel-good story: Ms Kholofelo Kgabale (Sports Club Administrator at Black Leopards FC)<\/strong><\/p>

Ms\u00a0Kholofelo\u00a0Kgabale is a proud alumnus of the Vaal University of Technology (VUT), where he completed the National Diploma and Advanced Diploma in Sport Management. As per Ms Kgabale, the Sport Management \u201cunexpectedly captured my passion and I have never regretted the decision\u201d. Currently, Ms Kgabale is a Sports Administrator at Black Leopards FC, competing in the National First Division based in Thohoyandou Stadium as the club\u2019s home ground and Polokwane Rugby Stadium as the training base. Black Leopards FC was founded in 1983 by the esteemed Thidiela family and led by Chairman Tshifhiwa “Chief” Thidiela. As an administrator, Ms Kgabale is responsible for;<\/p>

  • Maintaining records and databases of all the club players & technical team
    \u2022\u2060 \u2060Arranging logistics (equipment and transportation)
    \u2022\u2060 \u2060Supporting the Head Coach with internal and external matters
    \u2022\u2060\u00a0 General \u2060office administration work
    \u2022\u2060\u00a0 \u2060Organising and storing information<\/li><\/ul>

    \u201cApplying the theoretical knowledge that I have learned from my lecturers in a practical setting has been fascinating. I am grateful to Dr Sumari Tesnear and Mr Peace Mabasa for their contributions to my academic success. Outside of work, I am an avid runner, finding solace and motivation in the sporting code. Interestingly, my passion for sports began with watching the Olympics when I was young, particularly track and field events and swimming stole my heart and I never looked back at the inclination to become an athlete. I never imagined being part of the sports industry, but as Proverbs 16:9 reminds us, We plan, but God decides. I’m grateful for this unexpected path.\u201d As per Nelson Mandela \u201cIt always seems impossible until it\u2019s done.\u201d. The head of the department has applauded Ms Kgabale for being exemplary and her story of success is viewed as a motivation for future graduates from the Department of Marketing, Retail Business & Sport Management.<\/p>

    Studentpreneur on the rise: KaraboTsoeu leads with vision and empowers with purpose
    <\/strong><\/p>

    The Department of Marketing, Retail Business and Sport Management proudly celebrates the leadership rise of Karabo Tsoeu, a third-year Retail Business Management student, who has been appointed as Chairperson of the Student Women Economic Empowerment Programme (SWEEP) at VUT on the 10th<\/sup> of April 2024. In a remarkable dual appointment, she has also been named<\/p>


    Karabo\u2019s journey, rooted in humble beginnings in Kutlwanong, Free State, is a testament to resilience and purpose. Inspired by her mother\u2019s entrepreneurial spirit, she has turned early ventures, like selling sweets and vegetables on campus, into a foundation for strategic leadership and innovation. Her academic path in Retail Business Management sharpened her business acumen, allowing her to be able to manage the stock, apply marketing strategies and run small businesses professionally.
