Organised by the Office of the Vice-Chancellor, the gathering at Lapeng Hall on the main campus was a proud moment of unity, reflection and inspiration for the institution.

Following their June graduation, where they earned NQF Level 3 National Certificates, these dedicated staff members were recognised once more, this time not only for their academic accomplishment but also for the promise they hold in shaping VUT’s future. The luncheon, marked by heartfelt speeches and a reaffirmation of the university’s commitment to developing its workforce, celebrated progress, ambition and potential.

The programme was directed by Ms Maureen Rathopo, Manager in the Office of the Vice-Chancellor and Principal. Distinguished university leaders graced the event, including Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research, Innovation, Commercialisation and Internationalisation, Dr Speech Nelana; Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Teaching, Learning and Student Affairs, Dr Grace Kanakana-Katumba; Executive Dean of the Faculty of Human Sciences, Professor Lazarus Maleho; and representatives from Human Resources.

In his address, Professor Ndlovu urged graduates to aim high, envisioning a future where they rise beyond their current roles and aspire to academic excellence, even to the level of PhDs. “I hope to one day walk into the university and see you occupying various positions,” he said. Emphasising time management and self-investment, he spoke of the need for structured career advancement opportunities. “Ideally, we must have a succession plan, not only to support study, but to ensure qualifications are translated into meaningful roles,” he added.

Echoing this sentiment, Ms Khanyisa Hanisi, Executive Director for Human Resources, spoke of transformation beginning within. “It is wonderful to see that VUT’s commitment to developing people does not stop at the broader community, it begins right here, within our walls,” she said. She pledged ongoing HR support in alignment with the institution’s Strategy 2033. “Whatever we aim to achieve by 2033 and beyond starts internally, with how we empower and equip our people,” she concluded.

Gratitude was a recurring theme throughout the event. Speaking on behalf of the graduates, Mrs Magdeline Mosia expressed heartfelt thanks to the Office of the Vice-Chancellor and the organising team for creating opportunities for learning and recognition. “This luncheon shows that our efforts are seen, valued, and worth celebrating,” she said.

The luncheon stood as a testament to VUT’s belief that personal growth fuels institutional success, a reminder that achievement and ambition deserve not only acknowledgement but continued nurturing.

“The
