It was a moment not only of recognition, but of reflection on the power of radio to inform, inspire, and unite.

The ceremony paid tribute to both on-air personalities and the often-unseen teams working behind the scenes, whose dedication ensures seamless broadcasting and consistent audience engagement.

Programme Director and VUTFM presenter, Mr Ayeza Nodyontwana, set the tone with energy and conviction, guiding the proceedings while celebrating radio as both a craft and a calling, one rooted in storytelling and societal impact.

Welcoming guests, VUTFM Content Coordinator Ms Saneliso Mavuka reflected on the deeper responsibility carried by those behind the microphone. “Radio is not just about being heard, it is about serving communities, shaping conversations, and inspiring change. Today, we celebrate those who carry that responsibility with passion and excellence,” she said.

Station Manager Mr Mxolisi Ndongeni highlighted the station’s steady growth and rising national recognition. He noted that VUTFM presenters are increasingly gaining visibility within the broader broadcasting industry, with recent nominations at national platforms affirming the station’s standard of excellence. “This is where many broadcasting journeys begin,” he said. “The dedication and discipline shown by our presenters prove that VUTFM is not just a radio station, it is a launchpad for future media professionals.”

Delivering a thought-provoking keynote address, media expert Mr Jacob Ntshangase challenged broadcasters to uphold the integrity and transformative potential of radio. It thrives on its relationship with listeners.”

Cautioning against complacency, he urged presenters to remain disciplined and intentional. “Radio is not built on music alone, it is built on structure, content, and personality. Its power lies in format and discipline.”

He further called for authenticity anchored in awareness. “An authentic on-air personality is essential, but it must be complemented by cultural intelligence and a deep understanding of your audience.”

Beyond the microphone, he emphasised accountability. “What we do off air matters. Your behaviour reflects on the station. You are always ambassadors of the brand.”

The ceremony also honoured long-serving contributors Mr Kenny Morupe, Mr Seun Lehloo and Mr Jacob Sefatsa, recognising their unwavering commitment to the station.

Reflecting on the journey, Mr Morupe noted: “Today is about celebrating the journey, recognising our growth, and appreciating the collective effort that keeps us moving forward.
