Portfolio Committee of Parliament with the VUT delegation
On Friday, 7 February 2020, the Vaal University of Technology (VUT) had a visit from the Portfolio Committee of Parliament on Higher Education, Science and Technology.
The purpose of the visit was to observe and monitor how the processes of the institution are carried out and address the matters that have been addressed in the media. VUT administrator Professor Ihron Rensburg welcomed the committee and VUT staff and said he was looking forward to the reviews and comments that will be presented at the end of the meeting. He also said that the institution has formally concluded the registrations for the 2020 academic year and lectures have commenced.
There were different activities requested by the committee for the day, such as the walkabout around the campus (Financial Aid and Credit Management offices including lecture halls), they proceeded to the student residences to assess the progress on renovation of the buildings, safety measures and overall cleanliness of the institution and student residences.
The committee delegation was led by the Honourable Nompendulo Mkhatshwa, who ensured that most areas were covered in the visit. After visiting the above-mentioned areas, the delegation re-convened again in the Council Chambers to watch presentations by the Administrator; the Labour Unions; Student Representative Council; Finances; Registrar; acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Teaching, Learning and Student Support and the Department of Operations and Logistics.
The delegation had an opportunity to give comments and reviews on all the presentations and everything they observed during the walkabout in the institution and residences. In closing, Prof Rensburg acknowledged all the comments and reviews and ensured that the university staff and students will do their best to ensure that there is improvement in how institution operates.
