The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) and VUT’s partnership in alleviating poverty amongst needy students has gone from strength to strength since 2015. They have once again emerged from the Student Life boardroom, after a meeting on 22 August, with an agreement to support 60 students with food parcels.
The special sitting was honoured by Head of Department: Student Support Services, Mrs Matjhabedi Mazibuko; Social worker at Student Counselling and Support Services, Tumelo Metsing; representatives from SASSA, the Student Representative Council President, Gcina Ngceke; Thenji Motaung, the Administrator to the Director: Marketing and PR as well as a representative from the protection services department; Siphiwe Tshabalala.
Gratitude was expressed to SASSA by Mrs Mazibuko for choosing VUT, bearing in mind that VUT is not the only institution or organisation in need of such initiatives.
The contribution that SASSA has made will go a long way in terms of assisting the students and it is hoped that in the next operation, even more students will be reached.
