Mr Aldon Fischer (VUT Alumnus), from Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL), visited the Vaal University of Technology (VUT) in 2018 for his practical while he was studying towards his Electrical Machines 4 at UNISA. His time here made him fall in love with the university and he identified certain needs.
He communicated with the lecturer to identify the most needed electrical equipment for practical lessons and approached his company, which usually supports other universities. The lecturer Mr Richard Adaurhere identified the gaps for BTech students and SEL approved the request.
The Electrical Engineering students have now received a microprocessor-based protective relays that will assist them to advance their practicals. Mr Adaurhere and his HOD, Ms Theresa Joubert, said that they are excited since this is the first time the department has received such advanced equipment as a donation.

Mr Fischer said he as merely showing his appreciation towards the university: “This was just a gesture of appreciation for what VUT has done for me. It does not stop here: SEL, the company that I work for, has said they will continue to donate as long as VUT identify the gaps.”
He further thanked everyone who was involved at SEL to allow his donation proposal to succeed and said that the donation is for the university, its students and future students’ benefit.
