On 29 November, the Vaal University of Technology (VUT) honoured its long-serving staff members at a special awards ceremony at the VUT Desmond Tutu Hall.
There were categories for 10, 15, 20,25,30,35 and even 40 years of service and an impressive 116 staff members received awards.
Outlining the proceedings and welcoming everyone to the ceremony was Professor Patrick Radebe, Executive Director: Human Resources Department who said that the day served as a time to reflect on how the staff who have given so many years have contributed to shaping the VUT.
He highlighted that they are very important people and that the University’s values and work ethic are created and built by them. It is they who pass the values on to the younger generation.
Professor Raymond Mabuza; Executive Dean: Applied and Computer Sciences thanked the workers for showing current staff and students that they have come to the right place. He said that not many people are willing to commit and serve in one place for such a long time and that they are thus very special people: “VUT is ever growing; it cares for people and people should take care of it,” he said.
In closing the ceremony Prof Radebe said: “We are very happy as the Human Resources Department. Do not undermine yourself and your contribution to the University.”
