The visit formed part of VUT’s broader mission to inspire and guide future innovators and professionals from local communities.

The learners toured key academic spaces and laboratories, including the engineering workshop, science labs, and the AMBIO laboratory, where they witnessed live demonstrations on water purification and tissue analysis. These immersive experiences offered learners a tangible sense of the innovation and research culture that defines VUT.

Reflecting on the experience, Grade 11 learner Zandile Nhlapo shared her enthusiasm: “I learned that VUT offers a wide range of courses, from Engineering and Management Sciences to Computer Sciences. Today, I leave with clarity about which programmes I qualify for and want to pursue. The laboratory visits were my highlight, we even learned about tissue studies and post-mortems. It was eye-opening.”

The visit not only broadened the learners’ academic horizons but also connected classroom learning with real-world applications, sparking curiosity and ambition as they prepare for matric.

Expressing her gratitude, Ms Ntswaki Makume, Departmental Head at Jet Nteo Secondary School, said: “The reception was outstanding. Seeing our school’s name displayed on the welcome wall made us feel recognised and valued. The presentations were highly informative, offering our learners clear guidance about their future studies. Touring the labs gave them insight and determination. They returned home inspired and ready to work even harder. This experience has truly reignited their drive to excel. Thank you, VUT.”

Representing the VUT Recruitment Team, Ms Dimakatso Mtaung, Recruitment Officer shared that the initiative forms part of VUT’s broader commitment to youth empowerment and educational access: “We are always excited to open our doors to high school learners and help them visualise their future within higher education. Engaging with them at this stage gives them confidence, purpose, and motivation to work towards qualifying for university entry. We hope this experience has inspired them to see VUT as a place where their dreams can grow.”

“Jet Nteo Secondary School Grade 11 learners visited VUT for a campus tour and career session, exploring bursaries, programmes, and […]

[47

post-29602","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-latest-news-vaal-university-of-technology
["GET
