On 20 April 2026, as the Vaal University of Technology (VUT) continued its journey on the Road to 60, a story of friendship quietly took centre stage among the 60th generation of graduates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr Tshepiso Lehloonolo Kaibe and Mr Tayron Masinyane Mhlongo did not walk the academic journey alone. Side by side, through lectures, deadlines, and long nights of preparation, they pushed each other to a shared finish line, both graduating Cum Laude with Advanced Diplomas in Public Relations Management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their achievement is more than a mark of academic excellence. It is a reflection of what happens when ambition is shared, when discipline is mutual, and when friendship becomes a source of strength rather than distraction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both graduates were drawn to the world of media and communication early on. For Mr Kaibe, Public Relations opened doors to multiple interests, from marketing to storytelling, offering both creativity and versatility. That curiosity became a steady force that carried him through the demands of his studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But the journey was not without its weight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr Kaibe balanced academic pressures with responsibilities in the Corporate Communications office, gaining practical experience while managing deadlines. At the same time, Mr Mhlongo had to adapt to a shift in academic expectations, moving from practical work to more theory-driven demands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There were moments when the pressure intensified. Projects that required securing sponsorships, coordinating stakeholders, and delivering under tight timelines tested both their resilience and their ability to perform under strain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through it all, one constant remained, they had each other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve been through everything together, assignments, presentations, the frustrations, the happiness,\u201d they reflected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their friendship became a quiet anchor. They studied together, challenged each other\u2019s thinking, refined each other\u2019s work, and held each other accountable when it mattered most. In that shared discipline, consistency was not forced, it became natural.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is this rhythm of support that carried them to distinction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For them, success was never an individual pursuit. It was built in conversation, in shared effort, and in the understanding that showing up for each other was just as important as showing up for their studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, as part of the 60th generation of VUT graduates, they leave not only with qualifications, but with a story that speaks to the power of collaboration in a space often defined by individual performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their message to current students is simple, yet honest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf you dare to do it, just give it your all,\u201d said Mr Mhlongo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As they look ahead, both graduates remain committed to growing within the field of public relations, carrying forward the discipline, adaptability, and work ethic that shaped their journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a milestone year for the University, their story adds a human layer to the celebration. It reminds us that behind every qualification is not only hard work, but the people who make the journey lighter, the friends who turn pressure into possibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
