The Faculty of Applied and Computer Science’s Non- Destructive Testing (NDT) Department of the Vaal University of Technology was visited by Mr Chris Georgiou from Techtra Engineering Consultants on Friday, 31 January 2020.
The aim of the visit was to discuss the procedures and processes that are required for Techtra Engineering Consultants to offer a bursary to an NDT first-year student.
Mr Chris Georgiou gave an overview of the company’s profile and background as an NDT equipment supplier and services consultant. Techtra Engineering Consultants offers maintenance services by repairing and calibrating on all the NDT instrumentation it supplies, ensuring that these instruments create value for the users. Therefore, no effort is spared to make sure that the instruments are operational if possible. They also try to help customers to solve any NDT problems encountered in the field. Finally, they also provide free training on varied skills as part of their corporate social responsibility.
Mr Chris Georgiou explained how the student will benefit from the bursary. He said that the student will receive about R35000 and through the assistance of the VUT Financial aid office, it will be determined as to what will the amount cover. The NDT staff members will conduct a screening process to identify the student who will be receiving the bursary.
It is important to note that only students registered at Vaal University of Technology for NDT are eligible to receive the funding for 2020, and no NSFAS funded student will be considered.
