The Vaal University of Technology’s (VUT) Centre for Academic Excellence (CAD) hosted a motivational seminar: ‘Unlocking great minds’ for first-year students on 17 April at the Desmond Tutu Great Hall.
The students were welcomed by a poet called Xhosa Boy; Tendo a motivational speaker and Peter Rasaha also known as Peter the Great who delivered the opening remarks for the event. He shared with students his overall career path and tips for the journey to success. He said that “the background only reflects where you come from but cannot prevent one from achieving their dreams”.
He was also followed by the keynote speaker Mr Satch Muchiriri, who shared the sentiments that students should focus on their chosen fields of study and highlighted that personal excellence is through the application of knowledge. Speaking about his personal experiences he said: “It’s not about how you start or begin but about how you finish.”
He added: “It doesn’t matter how many times you fail. Know who you are as a person if you want to make a difference. Be deaf to negative opinions. You can decide who you want to be.”
“Nothing can stop a passionate person,” he concluded.
