The Centre for Academic Development (CAD) announced on 3 November 2020, that the applications for 2021 mentorship programme are now open. This is a volunteer programme aimed at empowering senior students to become the champions of graduations and success at VUT. It establishes a vital support network experience for first-year students and assists them to adjust to university life by providing psychosocial support. Senior students (2nd year and above), are trained to become mentors to help facilitate the development of learning communities for first-year students.
“Each faculty at VUT has mentors whose duty is to mentor first-year students studying similar courses to help them to undertake a successful transition of their academic journey. They provide information, share experiences, encourage and motivate them to pursue their educational goals, and guide them in the right direction to achieve success. Furthermore, they refer them to relevant Student Support Services available at VUT for emotional and psychological support,” said Mothusi Samosamo, Learning Development Co-coordinator at CAD.
Students should submit the following documents to mothusis@vut.ac.za, closing date: 30 November 2020:
· A Comprehensive CV and motivational letter
· Proof of registration and academic record with average aggregate of 60% pass mark
