The VUT Gold Fields Library Staff

On 27 July 2023, staff from the VUT Goldfield Library took part in the Fundza Mzansi Book Club event held at the Groenpunt Correctional Centre where they donated more than five hundred books to the centre.

A relationship was established thirteen (13) years between VUT, the Department of Correctional Services (DCS), the National Library of South Africa (NLSA), and the George Municipality in the Western Cape, with the aim of encouraging communities to establish book clubs and to read as many books as possible.

Other invited stakeholders on the day included the Department Sport, Arts and Culture (DSAC), Pan South African Language Board (Pansalb), North-West University (NWU) and L.E Notsi Secondary School.

Those in attendance got to witness talent from different book clubs across various correctional centers participating in different competitions such as Unprepared Reading, Spelling Bee, Poems, and Book Reviews.
