VUT HONOURS MADIBA’S LEGACY THROUGH IMPACTFUL COMMUNITY WORK

During the 10th International Nelson Mandela Day, the Vaal University of Technology (VUT) paid tribute to uTata Nelson Mandela’s life and legacy by making a positive impact within the surrounding communities.
Staff from the Victim Empowerment Centre (VEC) and a group of residence students visited MaThwala’s Orphanage in Vanderbijlpark to donate food parcels.
Staff from the VUT French South African Schneider Electric Education Centre (F’SASEC) spent the day at the Sizanani Comprehensive School in Sebokeng giving inspiring and encouraging career talk to Grade 11 and 12 learners, especially those with a passion for Mathematics. Other activities included planting vegetables, electrical installations, and repairs, as well as hosting a Math Olympiad, where the winner walked away with a prestigious bursary prize.
The Community Engagement Department, Creative Culture Department, and the Centre for Academic Development (CAD) conducted a 67-minute clean-up campaign on campus. Additionally, Mr. Joseph Radebe, the Acting Director: Community Engagement, alongside community members of Boipatong visited an elderly woman in the area to clean her house and donate food parcels and clothing items This is a continuous initiative as there is an intention to paint the house in the not-so-distant future.
