Delegation from VUT and External Stakeholder on the Stakeholder Engagement Imbizo
The Vaal University of Technology (VUT) hosted the Stakeholder Engagement Imbizo on Monday, 24 February 2020 at the Emerald Casino. The stakeholder engagement imbizo follows two imbizos that were held at the Vanderbijlpark Campus and streamed live to all other campuses to give direction and feedback after the assessor’s report was gazetted on Thursday, 13 February 2020.
The VUT Administrator, Professor Ihron Rensburg addressed all VUT stakeholders directly about the state of the institution. He said: “We are in dire stress as an institution, but when we put our minds to it, our shoulders too, and have the right people on board, we could turn the institution into a fine one.”
He also shared that this is the third time the institution had been placed under administration in two decades. Administrators are usually placed for six months at universities, but Prof Rensburg will be at VUT for two years. He shared that the most areas that have been reported as concerns are procurement infrastructure, procurement in general and human resources. He said he is here to stabilise the university, bring in the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) to investigate in depth the activities of several university officials and review senior management posts, conduct lifestyle audits, to mention a few.
He further encouraged the external stakeholders to lend a hand in ensuring that we realign the institution and make it a better place for the students and community at large.
The delegation also shared their input and gave sentiments of their faith in the administrator and pledged their support.
