The Vaal University of Technology (VUT) was among the recipients of the Special 20th Anniversary Award presented by Achieving the Dream (ATD) at the DREAM: Siyaphumelela Network Awards that took place on 21 February 2024 in the United States of America (USA).
This prestigious accolade recognises and celebrates the work of South African institutions of higher learning that are affiliated with ATD and Siyaphumelela Network for advancing equity, promoting student-centered transformation and increasing the use of evidence-based approaches to enhance student success with global perspectives.
Funded by the Kresge Foundation, Siyaphumelela is a network of South African universities that was created in 2014 and has grown from five to 17 universities with increasing participation in ATD. ATD’s partnership with Siyaphumelela has increasingly flourished over time.
There to receive the award of behalf VUT was Dr Muntuwenkosi Chili, the Executive Director for the Centre of Academic Development (CAD). Acknowledging the award, Dr Chili said he was deeply honored and grateful to receive the award on behalf of VUT, recognizing student initiatives and positive contributions. “I believe that every student has the power to make a difference, and it has been our privilege to contribute positively to our community. This award not only motivates us to continue our efforts but also serves as a reminder of the impact we can collectively create,” said Dr Chili.
