VUT-UNISA cements joint campus use agreement
The Vaal University of Technology (VUT) and the University of South Africa (UNISA) have cemented an agreement to collaborate and jointly utilise the facilities of Ekurhuleni Campus in Daveyton for the long term benefit of students and other stakeholders in the East Rand region.
The formal lease agreement, tabling the space allocated to VUT as well as common space for rental charges will also have to be finalized. Lease agreement will commence on 1st January 2017. The agreement will replace the current interim service agreement.
The official signatories of this agreement were the VUT Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and Research) Professor KP Dzvimbo and UNISA Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor MS Makhanya.
The leaders of both institutions have expressed a desire and need to collaborate jointly in order to secure a long term higher education presence on the East Rand and to enable students to access higher education and to enrol for higher education and other academic programmes through the joint use of space and facilities on the campus. It is outlined that this agreement replaces the initial one which was concluded between UNISA and the University of Johannesburg in respect of the usage of the campus.
In the agreement, it is spelt out that the VUT is satisfied that the premises where the campus is situated are suitable for the purpose for which it requires them. Both institutions are expected to agree on the joint-use-strategy and approach of the campus and the facilities that they will use jointly in order to enjoy a beneficial and convenient use of the campus during the term of this agreement.
