VUT Vice Chancellor and Principal launches Bursary Fund, and sets example with R5000 personal donation.
17 April 2024
In a heartening display of commitment to fostering educational opportunities, Prof Stephen Khehla Ndlovu, Vice Chancellor and Principal of the Vaal University of Technology (VUT has taken a significant step towards assisting students in need.
Prof Ndlovu recently announced the launch of what many have described as ‘long-overdue’ VUT Bursary Fund that is aimed at supporting financially disadvantaged students. The announcement was made during his congratulatory address at this year’s autumn graduations held from 15 – 20 April 2024 at the university’s Desmond Tutu Great Hall.
To kickstart the initiative, Prof Ndlovu personally donated R5 000.00 towards the Fund, thus serving as a powerful example of leadership and commitment to the cause. By leading with generosity and empathy, he encourages others within the VUT Community and beyond to contribute towards the Bursary Fund, thereby expanding its reach and impact.
Although there are no full details at this point, the newly established Bursary Fund aims to alleviate financial burdens faced by deserving students, enabling them to focus on their studies without worrying about economic constraints. Also, it is expected that students who qualify for assistance from the Bursary Fund will undergo a transparent selection process based on financial need and academic merit. The fund’s administration will work closely with the university’s financial aid office to ensure fair and equitable distribution of resources.
According to Prof Ndlovu, the initiative reflects a commitment to inclusive education and underscores the university’s dedication to nurturing talent and potential regardless of socioeconomic background. “Through collective efforts and contributions, the Bursary Fund is poised to make a lasting impact on the lives of countless students, empowering them to fulfil their academic aspirations and contribute meaningfully to society.”
The Vice Chancellor and Principal appealed to alumni, donors, and corporate partners to join hands in supporting the Bursary Fund, saying that contributions of any amount are welcomed. Donations can be made here: https://vut.ac.za/donate-to-vut/
