Wednesday, 23 March 2022, was a special day for author Professor Kaitano Dube, Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Dan Kgwadi and the Vaal University of Technology (VUT) at large.
On this day, a short handover ceremony was held in the VC’s Office to create an opportunity for Prof Dube to gift the VC with a set of books he has c0-authored and edited.
Published by Springer Nature, the books resulted from a collaboration between VUT and academics from the University of South Africa (UNISA), namely; Prof Godwell Nhamo, Dr David Chikodzi and Prof Muchaitei Togo.
These books have been highly cited and downloaded and were covered in the recent Working Group II contribution to the IPCC Sixth Assessments, a testament to the impact of the research being conducted by local researchers.
The edited books were written by authors from various parts of the world, including those from some leading global universities. Find below a list of the books – also available at the VUT Goldfields Library:
· Counting the Cost of COVID-19 on the Global Tourism Industry

The presentation of the books authored by one of our own affirms the VC’s observation that “notwithstanding the challenges of the past, the core business at VUT (teaching, learning, research and community engagement) has remained intact in light of the – breaking and topical research that was emanating from academics such as Prof Dube.”
In his acceptance speech, Prof Kgwadi agreed with Prof Dube that VUT’s there is a need to increasingly showcase some of the good things that emanate from the VUT community VUT people should tell positive stories.
