VUT WOMEN’S MONTH: A GLIMPSE INTO LYDIA PHAMOTSE’S JOURNEY WHO EMBRACES STRENGTH, DETERMINATION AND EMPOWERMENT

Lydia Phamotse’s remarkable journey shines as a testament to the formidable force of determination, faith, and enduring love amidst life’s trials. Hailing from the vibrant town of Sharpeville in the Vaal, Lydia stands as a proud mother of two daughters and a son. Raised by her grandparents as the youngest of three siblings, their unyielding strength and love established the bedrock of her path.
Her roots weave a tapestry of diverse heritage, blending Sotho and Ndebele ancestry from her father and mother respectively. This cultural amalgamation is reflected not only in her identity but in her fluency in Southern Sotho a tribute to her familial connections.
Lydia’s guiding lights were her grandmothers, embodying grace and resilience in adversity. Their unwavering love and respect sculpted her character and fueled her evolution into a strong woman. She draws inspiration from single mothers nurturing their children with love and dignity, and women who escape abusive relationships, a wellspring of courage that empowers her.
Educational pursuit is a testament to Lydia’s commitment to self-betterment. After matriculating in 1999, she pursued further studies at Sedibeng College in 2006, excelling in Assistant Management up to N5. In 2023, she secured a national certificate in Project Management from the Academy of York. Her professional journey at VUT commenced as a security officer in 2010, evolving over the years to her current role as Client Service Supervisor. Despite single motherhood’s challenges, Lydia’s tenacity radiates as she maintains a work-life equilibrium.
In a male-dominated security industry, Lydia breaks gender barriers. She fosters solidarity among her female peers, stressing that all backgrounds contribute to progress. Advocating for a compassionate work environment, Lydia promotes etiquette while nurturing growth.
Lydia’s life encapsulates invaluable lessons. She underscores the dignity of one’s labor and advocates for knowledge-seeking through curiosity. Self-love, respect, and indomitable spirit are her guiding principles.
Her two daughters stand as unswerving pillars of strength. Through her journey as a security guard and beyond, they’ve been steadfast, aiding in raising their sibling. Lydia adeptly balances work and home life, valuing cherished moments indoors and finding solace in shopping.
Lydia’s aspirations are both lofty and noble – founding a thriving empire and business for her children to break free from the cycle of laboring for others. Her family’s well-being propels her ambitions.
