As part of the month-long ongoing drive to pay special tribute to the remarkable women of the Vaal University of Technology (VUT), Corporate Communications caught up with Millicent Kagiso Seripe, an Administrator at the University’s Centre for Academic Development (CAD).
Millicent is a driven and bright young woman originally from Phokeng in Rustenburg, North West, where she completed her basic education before proceeding to VUT where she obtained a National Diploma in Public Relations Management. A staunch believer in personal development through education, she went on to complete a Short Learning Programme on Project Management Principles and Techniques at the North-West University (NWU).
During her study years at VUT, she joined the HIV Unit as a Peer Helper and later in 2014, volunteered as an administrator in a partnership program between De-Beers and VUT which provided extra classes to Grade 12 learners.
To get her career off the ground, she started as an intern at VUT and due to her commitment and hard work, she got the role of Communication Assistant and eventually landed her current position. Millicent has extensive experience in organizational communication and office administration, particularly in the demanding academic setting of VUT. She’s proven herself in coordinating events such as conferences, workshops, and seminars, consistently meeting deadlines and upholding professional and ethical standards.
Alongside her studies, she discovered a passion for entrepreneurship and launched her own successful makeup business (Lashes and Makeup by MK). She expanded her endeavors by starting a YouTube channel (MK Seripe), sharing business startup ideas and her interests like DIY projects and decor. However, her entrepreneurial mind didn’t allow her to stop there – she recently launched a new venture creating aprons for cooking enthusiasts, promoting the slogan “be beautiful in your cooking”. As exemplified in her multiple business ventures, she believes strongly in in entrepreneurship as a key ingredient in fast-tracking women empowerment.
Since joining VUT, her track record demonstrates her reliability, hardworking nature, and goal-oriented mindset, and in all the roles she has occupied, she is known for bringing creativity, innovation, and new initiatives to the table, making her an asset to the institution.
