VUT’s third annual Supplier Day celebrates and fosters strong relationships with suppliers

The Vaal University of Technology (VUT) recognises its suppliers as one of its important stakeholders in ensuring that it continues to deliver on its commitment to academic success and competitive edge. Recently, the University’s Supply Chain Management Department held its third annual Supplier Day event at the Desmond Tutu Great Hall .
The primary aim of the event was to cultivate strong partnerships between the institution and its esteemed suppliers, emphasizing enhanced interaction and the reinforcement of existing connections. Additionally, it sought to set out the various business prospects within VUT, while also encouraging prospective suppliers keen on collaborative ventures with the institution. Moreover, the event adopted a pivotal role in nurturing resilient and mutually advantageous affiliations between the University and its supplier network.
Drawing a diverse audience, including external companies, students, and staff, the event provided a platform for exhibitions and networking opportunities. Notably, Ms Tisch Farrell, the VUT Marketing and Branding Manager, emphasized the crucial role of strengthening relationships between the organization and its suppliers, especially in the context of the University’s brand. She highlighted the significant impact suppliers can have on the University’s brand, whether positive or negative. Ms. Farrell also emphasized the need for proactive engagement and collaboration with suppliers to ensure that their contributions align with and enhance the University’s brand image. “This includes services, goods, and products provided to the University,” she said, adding that building strong mutual relationships with suppliers is essential for safeguarding and enhancing VUT’s brand reputation.
Speaking about the significance of radio advertising, Mr Ehis Ebhonu, VUT FM Sales and Marketing Coordinator, introduced the audience to the effective utilization of the station as an advertising tool. His presentation focused on the efficient use of VUT FM as a platform for promoting the University’s messages, events, and initiatives. Advising the audience on how to leverage radio for advertising, Mr Ebhono assured the audience that advertising efforts through VUT FM are targeted, impactful, and aligned with the University’s values and objectives.
Francois Jourbert and Rajendran Moodley, representing the Projects and Services department, stressed the critical importance of providing quality goods and services to the University while maintaining business integrity in all dealings. The emphasis on quality goods and services reflects the University’s commitment to excellence in procurement, and that compliance with VUT’s policies is crucial for suppliers. Francois Jourbert and Rajendran Moodley advocates for a fair and transparent business environment between the University and its suppliers. “This not only ensures the quality of goods and services but also establishes a foundation of trust and ethical conduct in all business interactions, benefiting both the University and its suppliers,” the two said.
Furthermore, the Supply Chain Management (SCM) representatives, Mzamane Modiba, a Tender Manager, and Rose Teffo, who manages the database and contracts, took the opportunity to explain the crucial and multifaceted function of SCM in business and logistics. This, they said involves planning, executing, and controlling the flow of goods, services, information, and finances from the point of origin to the point of consumption.
On behalf of the department, Mr Thabiso Lehloo extended his heartfelt gratitude for the success of the Supplier Day event. He expressed appreciation for the contributions and collaboration from valued suppliers and partners, which greatly contributed to the event’s success. “Your dedication and commitment play an instrumental role in the shared journey towards operational excellence. We thank you for your ongoing support and we are looking forward to further strengthen partnerships in the future,” he said.
One noteworthy aspect of the event was the diverse lucky draws and competitions hosted by various companies, resulting in participants leaving with a variety of prizes.
