VUT students were left feeling stronger after a Women’s Empowerment event held at the Lapa on 11 August.
The Institutional HIV/AIDS Unit (IHAU) organised the event to educate women on topics such as peer education, alcohol and substance abuse, cervical and breast cancer, HIV and many others
Rev Mahloka, Acting Head Supply Chain Management at Emfuleni Municipality, was the keynote speaker of the day.
Her powerful and motherly guidance to the young ladies was: “Don’t lose sight of what makes you happy. Reflect on yourself and where you can improve to be a woman of value.” She also advised them on meaningful spending. Independent Field Advertiser (IFA), the network marketing division of Clientèle Life, also presented financial solutions to the ladies.
“Speakers said everything a young woman needs to hear, they spoke about our safety, sex, and [gave the] motivation that we need to hear from time to time,” said Busi Ndweni, Auditing student.
The young women, who came in their numbers, also got the opportunity to audition for the “Miss Face of Vaal” pageant and to become peer educators with IHAU.
