As part of VUT’s Enterprise Development Unit community engagement programmes, the unit hosted a workshop with Ladine, the hair products manufacturer, in partnership with Fountain of Beauty, a woman-owned beauty wholesale, retail and service provision company, at the Vaal University of Technology Southern Gauteng Science and Technology Park on Monday, 19 November 2018.
This workshop was held for those in the beauty industry and the Ladine team taught everyone everything from hairstyles to keeping their salons clean and in order. They even demonstrated which products are needed for certain hairstyles and the importance of taking cognisance of the type of hair they are dealing with.
For many of these salon owners, this was the first time they had had any formal training and this will go a long way in improving their businesses, ensuring the owners can put food on the table and put their children through school.
Ms Lindiwe Radebe: Technical educator, said: “We do workshops so that we can teach salon owners and employees how to apply nutrients and how to use our products. We have models that we hire and we showcase with them at these workshops so that people can see for themselves what our products can do”.
During the presentation, Mr Bongani Mabunda: Ladine Education Manager, advised the hairstylists to take their work seriously as the beauty industry is one of the biggest in the country. He also said that they need to respect their clients and give the best service possible so that they will be able to charge what their service is worth.
“Vaal hairstylists and professionals, it is time to take pride in our profession. Today we are honoured with a visit from Ladine. What are we to do with what we have learnt today? It is time for us to wake up and smell the coffee. Thank you Ladine for this workshop, I am really impressed, “said Ms Nomathamsanqa Lehoko from Style-Pro Academy in Vereeniging.
The Ladine team joining Mr Mabunda and Ms Radebe to ensure the day was memorable for all were Ms Bongi Luvuno, Mr Lutendo Magina, and Mr Lloyd Bulu and their models.
“We have formed a cluster that will support beauty professionals in the Vaal to develop themselves and their businesses. VUT Science Park is advancing the communities. Thanks to our partners Ms Paula Maleka for coordinating and Mr Bongani Mabunda for sharing his wisdom and for being such a motivator and for driving the Ladine brand,” said Dr Joseph Molete: Executive Director at VUTSGSTP.
