On 18 September 2025, the Building and Construction Student Society Organisation of the South African Institution of Civil Engineering at Vaal University of Technology (BCESSO SAICE VUT) achieved a historic milestone by being named the Highly Commended Student Chapter of the Year at the 2025 SAICE National Awards. The ceremony, held at the prestigious Galleria in Sandton, Johannesburg, brought together civil engineering leaders and students from across the country. For VUT, this honour stands as a crowning achievement, a testament to the chapter’s dedication, innovation, and leadership within the engineering fraternity.

Chairperson Ms Katleho Sigasa, supported by Deputy Chairperson Mr Christopher Lese, Secretary Ms Maletsosa Shano, Media Officer Ms Precious Mashaba, Treasurer Ms Samukelisiwe Xulu, Event Coordinator Ms Xongile Mhlanga, Head of Membership Ms Thlolohelo Mokoena, and Academic Officers Ms Nombuso Mbili and Mr Njabulo Nkosi, have collectively shaped a chapter defined by resilience, cohesion, and vision. Their combined energy has cultivated a vibrant student body committed to excellence and innovation in civil engineering.
