On 28 August 2025, the Vaal University of Technology (VUT) unveiled its new 60th anniversary logo during the lively #VUTCanYouFeelIt campaign celebration. The occasion marked the beginning of the countdown to June 2026, when VUT will celebrate six decades of academic excellence since its establishment in 1966.
The anniversary logo was born out of a special design competition that invited students from the Department of Visual Arts and Design to contribute their creativity to this historic milestone. This initiative ensured that the symbol would reflect the spirit of the VUT community, its resilience through the years, and its vision for the future.
At the event, Ms Ndumi Lufefe, Director of Stakeholder Engagement, expressed gratitude to staff, students, and partners for embracing the campaign and commended the Department of Marketing and Communications for leading the project with passion and precision.
Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Khehla Ndlovu, reflected on the significance of the logo, noting that it embodies the unity and aspirations of the university family. “This emblem is more than a design, it tells our story of resilience, innovation, and the transformative role we play in society. It will carry us through this important year of celebration and beyond,” he said.
The highlight of the event was the announcement of the winning design by Ms Lerato Makhekhe, a graphic design student whose logo will now stand as the official symbol of the 60th anniversary. Lerato received a cheque for R20,000 in recognition of her achievement and to support her studies.
The celebration closed with a dynamic performance by student influencer Layla and his crew, leaving the audience energised and inspired. The unveiling of the new logo set the stage for a series of activities leading up to VUT’s diamond jubilee in 2026, promising a year that honours the past while embracing the future with confidence.
