2021 O-week: students covid regulations observed
The Vaal University of Technology (VUT) orientation week commenced on 23 March and is scheduled to take place until 27 March 2021.
All registered first-year students are invited by sms and/or email to attend an orientation session at the shared date and time. With 5436 newly registered first-year students, the orientation will include an induction by the VUT orientation organising team, coordinated by the Centre for Academic Development (CAD), followed by an online welcoming by the following members of management from the University, namely: Professor Maggi Linington, Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Teaching, Learning and Student Support Services; Dr Corneli van der Walt, Acting Executive Director: Centre for Academic Development (CAD); VUT Faculty Executive Deans, namely: Prof Raymond Mabuza, Executive Dean: Applied and Computer Sciences; Prof Riana van der Bank, Human Sciences; Prof Roy Dhurup, Management Sciences and Prof Peter Osifo Engineering and Technology (Acting).
Other orientation offerings include:
- An online video on VUTela of Faculty programmes by the Heads of Academic Departments.
- Online presentations of the information booklet on VUTela by the different Faculties and Student Support Services.
- A module on VUTela on first-year orientation by the Centre of Academic Development.
- A tour of campus guided by student mentors.
As explained by a Student Representative Council (SRC) member: Nomvula Mphuti, VUT orientation week is a time for the University to answer questions the newly registered students may have, a time to introduce them to VUT, a time to gather information about the University’s services and resources available for their use.
International Relations Students
The international relations programme for the 2021 first-year orientation is no different from the one scheduled for students coming from different provinces within South Africa. Mr Wiseman Jack who is the Executive Director for Internationalisation as well as his staff members have been added to share information on VUTela relating to International students at a date to be communicated.

- A module on VUTela on first-year orientation by the Centre for Academic Development.
- A tour of campus guided by student mentors.

Day 1: Tuesday, 23 March 2021 – Faculty of Human Sciences
Day 2: Wednesday, 24 March 2021 – Faculty of Management Sciences
Day 3: Thursday, 25 March 2021 – Faculty of Applied and Computer Science’s
Day 4: Friday, 26 MARCH 2021 – Faculty of Engineering and Technology
