VUT Residence team makes student accommodation a priority for 2022

Plans are afoot to ensure VUT students no longer reside in private accommodation facilities that do not comply with the norms and standards of accredited accommodation.
This is an effort to address concerns raised by student leaders in the recent past as well as create an environment that is conducive to safe living and learning for all VUT students.
According to the Student Accommodation team under the leadership of Mr. Kgotla Marumola, Director of Student Accommodation, the following is in place:
· Additional buildings have been added which will provide a boost to the spaces that the institution has secured. The residence team has indicated that the overall number of available spaces in 2022 far exceeds spaces that were made available in leased buildings last year.
· 500 spaces have also become available on campus. This further provides opportunities for other students who used to reside in rented accommodation in Vanderbijlpark to also be accommodated on campus. Students are encouraged to apply for these spaces. Unfortunately, until the university receives confirmation of funding from NSFAS, some allocations cannot be confirmed.
· The second list of accredited buildings, which will include smaller accommodation establishments, was released on Friday,28 January 2022.
The residence team is working tirelessly to make sure students accommodation matters are prioritised and resolved.
