VUT hosted 30 learners from Phaswana Secondary School in Thohoyandou, in the Vhembe district in Limpopo, for a campus tour on 1 August.
The learners arrived, together with their educator and organiser of the tour, Ms Dzivhani, at about 10am in time for a presentation by the HOD: Student Recruitment Mr Phillip Masike and the Recruitment Officer Ms Dimakatso Jingela at auditorium 200.
The presentation was mainly about the courses that the institution offers, bursaries that are available and how prospective students have to apply. Mr Masike, however, went the extra mile to also motivate learners to do well. He advised them not to engage in negative activities that could lead them astray from the mission that brought them to university. He stressed that the learners have to remember that the main reason for coming to university is to get a qualification and advance their lives.
After the presentation, the student recruitment intern, Mr Vincent Nkaota took the learners on a tour of the campus. He showed them and explained to them about the different offices and facilities that the institution has.
The learners showed their excitement by taking ‘’selfies’’ to show their friends back home. They said they were motivated to do well in their exams in September and aimed to get good marks so as to be accepted into university. They said they were impressed with the environment that VUT offers.
