About Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry at Vaal University of Technology is a versatile department which prides itself on teaching and research. Staff bring the discipline to life for students in several departments in the University. It offers the following programmes:

National Diploma: Analytical Chemistry

Baccalaureus Technologiae: Chemistry

Magister Technologiae: Chemistry

Doctoris Technogiae: Chemistry

The Department recently received approval to offer the Bachelor of Science in Polymer Chemistry.

The Chemistry Department is actively engaged in research and prides itself on its publication record: not less than 12 publications per year in accredited journals. Research areas are waste water treatment and method development, adsorption technology, medicinal plants, nanotechnology and membrane technology. The Department is proud of its meaningful and applied research, which benefits both industry and the community. It has state-of-the-art research equipment serving not only researchers in the department but researchers at the university as a whole. It also provides services to outside companies as well as academics/researchers from other institutions around the country.
