The Corona Virus (COVID-19) has brought the world to a standstill.
South Africa is no exception to the impact of the pandemic. South Africa has been under level 5 and 4 lockdown for the past 3 months. Currently, the country has moved to level 3 under risk assessment strategy which makes access to education and other essential services possible.
All public universities, TVET colleges and private higher education institutions are expected to adhere to the national protocols and precautionary measures related to COVID-19 in order to reduce the risk of spreading the virus. VUT started with preparations of getting the campus ready for welcoming staff and students back on campus through the process of fogging and sanitizing the university buildings with the assistance of Scientology Volunteer Ministries, free of charge. Hand sanitizers have been installed in all strategic places for safe use by staff and students while washing of hands with soap and hot water is always encouraged.
VUT purchased 5 Fogger Series and 7 Decontamination units. This equipment will be used to sanitize all frequently used areas on campus to ensure that it is always safe to be used. The equipment was delivered on Wednesday, 3 June 2020 by Scientology Volunteer Ministries. Part of the purchase agreement includes training to selected service workers who will be responsible to keep campuses hygienically clean and virus free.
The Executive Director: Operations and Logistics, Mr Swana said that, what motivated VUT to buy this equipment, is to keep the environment safe for its staff and students on all campuses.
