Enactus-VUT Team President: Kekeletso Malule

Mr Kekeletso Malule; Enactus-VUT Team President participated in the Enactus Canada International panel on Tuesday, 8 September 2020. He is a second-year Legal assistance student at the Vaal University of Technology and hails from Botshabelo in the Free State Province.

He was amongst six students worldwide who represented their countries and universities such as: Canada, India, South Africa, Morocco, Brazil and United Kingdom. Theirs was to share their experiences in Enactus and their understanding of social entrepreneurship, providing advise to new Enactus teams on how to structure their project, the impact of COVID- 19 on the projects managed by the Enactus South Africa teams and answer questions from the attendees of the event.

Describing his experience at event, Malule said that: “From a personal perspective, I’d say it is something that needs to be done every year at all Enactus events. it also allows students from different countries, to create networks through sharing of personal experiences on entrepreneurship. I believe the relations formed with other panellists will benefit my team in this Enactus new year.”

“The reason why I agreed to this opportunity was to use it as a platform to learn how other people do things in their respective countries as far as the Enactus course is concerned. Although South African teams are investing a lot time in their projects, they are still far from reaching the goal of business sustainability. Students in other countries treat their projects as their own businesses and promotes competitiveness to boost the economy. They are creating long lasting professions through their projects through institutional and government support. In our country, my observation is that institutional and government support are not fully utilized as a vehicle to drive their goals of bettering the lives of the people. Universities in other countries make use of to achieve student’s developmental goals and to boost the university’s image by showcasing the role the university in the upliftment of communities. Others treat Enactus as an academic module and students are obligated to become part of Enactus, as it contributes towards their academic credits. Their governments are actually using this vehicle to create jobs and open more sustainable businesses,” he concluded.
