VUT DONATES COMPUTERS TO SUNCREST HIGH SCHOOL TO HELP BRIDGE THE ICT GAP

The Vaal University of Technology’s (VUT), Information & Communication Technology (ICT) department donated computers to Suncrest High School on the 20th of October 2022, as part of their community engagement. In attendance was the ICT department HoD, Dr Anneke Harmse, Professor Tranos Zuva, Mr Andrew Brown who is the Chairperson of the Department Community Engagement Chairperson), and the committee members. Representatives from Suncrest High School were the principal, Mr Dlamini, School Governing Body chairperson, Mr B Nale, Educator Mr Mushongera, and the learners. The principal was very grateful for the donation of these computers. Mr Dlamini, the Principal of Suncrest High School, also stated, “This indeed is a dream come true for Suncrest High School”. Mr Nale, the chairperson of the School Governing Body (SGB) added that the school should utilize the opportunity of being within the vicinity of VUT.
Responding to the initiative, one of the learners said: “Change is fundamental for growth; technology has sculptured many minds and created many parts; with the generosity from VUT, this will bring changes not only to the school but to the learners more particularly. Technology provides learners with online resources and the potential to explore many aspects of learning. Also, it awards learners the opportunity or platform to plan and venture through career professions”. Other learners also positively commented on this initiative.
In her remarks, Dr Harmse emphasised the importance of community engagement in the department and the importance of ICT skills in general. She further thanked the departmental administrator, the chairperson of community engagement, the departments of Advancement and Community Engagement, as well the university at large for making the donation a success.
The computers were then successfully transported to Suncrest High School.
