Among the thousands of graduates who were conferred their different qualifications at this year’s Vaal University of Technology (VUT)’s Autumn Graduations, was Mr Miehleketo Life Rihlampfu, Branch Chairperson of the National Education Health and Allied Workers Union (Nehawu), one of the officially recognized labour unions at the university.
Rihlampfu graduated for his Post Graduate Diploma of Higher Education from VUT’s Faculty of Human Science.
From the heart of Limpopo, Giyani, the transformative leader’s educational achievements highlight the value of lifelong learning and professional development, particularly in the fields of education and labor rights activism. Rihlampfu described the experience as challenging, especially with all the issues he had to tackle for his constituency, which salary negotiations, contract conversions to name a few.
Mr Rihlampfu’s road to academic success demonstrates his constant commitment to breaking down barriers and overcoming challenges. Born into a humble background, he draws inspiration from his late father, who worked tirelessly as a domestic worker to provide for their family. This heritage of hard work and determination drives Mr Rihlampfu’s relentless pursuit of educational advancement and social justice.
“I have noticed that many students arrive at the university solely focused on academic pursuits, yet it is imperative to recognize that a university offers more than just scholastic endeavors. It is critical to cultivate universal talents because the academic atmosphere provides a platform for overall development. As a result, I urge students to develop a varied skill set and strive for personal growth in addition to earning a degree,”, said the chairman.
He wishes to extend his heartfelt gratitude to the support staff, service workers, and cleaners, a representation of whom he proudly displayed through the attire he wore during his graduation ceremony.
