VUT female staff members celebrated Women’s Day in style
In true Vaal University of Technology style, our VUT ladies dressed to impress at this year’s Women’s Day celebration held at the Desmond Tutu Great Hall on 4 August. Themed: “The Stars Amongst Us” we celebrated and showed appreciation to the hidden gems of VUT.
Keynote speaker was Ms Onica Matsheke, a lecturer and facilitator of entrepreneurship at VUT within the Faculty of Management Sciences. She is also a community engagement representative and the founder of Thandonica Pty (Ltd) and Bumbokuhle. As one of the many stars at VUT, her message to the ladies was focused on self-awareness, self-management and pursuing one’s goals.
“How we manage our own emotions and our interaction with others has a much more profound impact on our professional success,” she said. She further shared her expertise and knowledge of entrepreneurship. She told the audience that if ever they’re in need of advice her door is always open.
Other star speakers were: Ms Eleanor Moloko, a professional nurse, who spoke on health related matters, such as breast cancer and HIV/AIDS; Celine Mainguy, from 4DHealth, who shared an amusing, yet very informative, presentation on Bravacious, a company that specialises in bras for curvy women; and Marishka Moodley, from SAB People, who ended off with a powerful talk on the important role women have in empowering each other in today’s society. Ms Kimberly Coetzee was the perfect programme director – leaving everyone in smiles and hearty laughter.
VUT female staff in entrepreneurship had the opportunity to showcase their products and service offerings at the stalls set up outside the venue. VUT’s very own Ms Millicent Seripe, from the Centre of Academic Development, who runs a make-up artistry business, was happy to sponsor treats for a few lucky ladies in the audience.
Everyone was in good spirits and enjoyed performances from Team SpokenWord (a music and poetry performance act from VUT). They seemed overjoyed with their gift packs and prize giveaways.
Ms Kimberly Coetzee looked and sounded like a star, keeping the ladies entertained and the programme running smoothly.
